Bold Question: What if curriculums were well designed to fit our learners needs?


Path to Metis: I am an Assistant Director in the Curriculum Directorate, Secondary Education Department of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in - charge of Humanities. I hold a Bachelors degree in Education (Arts in History and philosophy of Religious Studies) from Kenya University and a Masters degree in Education Administration and Planning from the University of Nairobi.


I am also pursuing a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. I have a background in teaching of at the secondary school level for 13 years from 1988 before joining KICD in 2002. I have been trained as a trainer of trainers in Peace Education , Human Rights Based Approach to Programming (HRBAP), Civic Education , Learning to Live Together (LTLT) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED).


I have undertaken the Senior Management Leadership Course at the Kenya School of Government. I have also undertaken online courses on “Cooperative Games: Enhancing children's participation and collaborative learning“ by Arigatou International and “Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Understanding”by Asia Pacific Centre for International Understanding.


Currently I am the focal person for the GCED Curriculum Integration Project in Kenya running from 2019 – 2021 for the initial phase and mainstreaming in curriculum of the UNESCO General History of Africa (GHA) , Inter - Culural Learning & Global Competence Education and Human Rights.


I coordinate mainstreaming of the Citizenship Competency in the ongoing curriculum reforms in Kenya and I am the Secretary to the Curriculum Reforms Technical Committee of KICD. My expertise covers development of curriculum and curriculum support materials, evaluation of curriculum support materials, research, orientation and in - service training of teachers and other curriculum implementers.
