InnovatED Amal Labs
Strengthening teacher-led innovation through human-centred design and AI
What is InnovatED Amal Labs?
InnovatED Amal Labs is a collaboration between Metis and Ayaat Foundation designed to transform teacher support in Kenya. We combine the Metis Way, a human-centred design approach to education and cutting-edge AI technology with deep community networks to give teachers the tools, time and confidence they need to thrive.
Our mission is simple: reduce administrative burdens, empower teachers as leaders, and improve learning outcomes for every child.

Our Work

Metis Way
A human-centred design thinking approach to education innovation.

AI for Teachers
Practical AI tools that generate schemes of work, lesson plans, assessments, and teaching strategies aligned to the Competency-Based Curriculum.

Practical Training
From webinars to in-person trainings, we ensure teachers can confidently apply AI tools in real classrooms.

Community Building
Fostering communities of learning that give teachers ongoing support. We create spaces for sharing experiences, solving challenges together, and building confidence in applying AI tools in the classroom.

Innovation Pilots
Testing and refining new methods to make teacher professional development sustainable and scalable.

Our Impact
At InnovatED Amal Labs, impact means empowering teachers and learners to grow, connect, and transform their classrooms in lasting ways. Teachers are saving time, teaching with confidence, and building stronger learning communities with the support of our tools and programs.
Smarter Lesson Planning

Teachers cut preparation time significantly by using CBC-aligned templates and editable guides, freeing them to focus on creativity and delivery.

Engaged Classrooms
AI-powered tools make lessons more dynamic, while personalised assessments boost student participation.
Empowered Teachers

Through our deep-dive course, teachers grow confident with digital literacy, CBC alignment, and even coding integration. Many now co-plan lessons, validate EdTech tools, and lead sessions for peers.

Better Outcomes for Learners
Pilot schools report stronger assessment quality, higher engagement, and measurable growth in digital literacy scores.

Communities of Practice
Online and in-person networks keep teachers connected, sharing resources, solving challenges, and mentoring one another.
