Sammy Murimi
Play Based Learning Lead, Kidogo Early Years
Bold Question:Â What if we used play-based activities, leveraging technology to help children achieve holistic development?
Pathway to Metis: Sammy Murimi is an early childhood development advocate and a program management practitioner with a deep commitment to ensure every child gets access to nurturing, playful, and stimulating environments to realise their holistic development—physical, cognitive, language, emotional, and social. In his role at Kidogo, Sammy supports caregiver/Mamapreneurs and Field Officers across a network of childcare centers, leading the implementation of a play-based learning program that is practical, scalable, and based on the realities of low-resource availability in urban informal settings.
Borrowing from his experience in project management, training, curriculum design, mentorship, and systems strengthening, Sammy has co-developed culturally relevant learning-through-play activities and tools, and foreseen the implementation ensuring consistent quality and impact across centers. He actively oversees the training and mentorship of caregivers and field staff, to empower them as co-creators of stimulating learning environments.
Sammy holds the belief that play is not an extra, but an essential aspect for life-long learning and thriving of children. He is strongly convinced that innovation is essential in early childhood and should always put the child at the center while surrounded by able and confident caregivers. To achieve this, he sees the leveraging of technology as an essential undertaking to realize scalability and sustainability. He pictures a time where every child in Kenya, regardless of where they come from, grows up with the proper foundation to thrive through practical, joyful, and developmentally rich experiences.
