Joel Kahindi

Professional Learning Specialist Lead, STEAMLabs Africa

Bold Question: What if we leveraged the power of play, digital literacy, and coding to equip learners to protect the planet and build safer and sustainable ecosystems?

Pathway to Metis: Joel Kahindi is  a committed computing education teacher, Joel believes that anyone can learn to code—regardless of their background—if given access, opportunity, and the right support. Joel works with learners aged 4 to 13, especially those from marginalized and humble communities, introducing them to coding using Scratch and Micro:bit. Even with limited ICT resources, Joel creatively uses what is available to deliver engaging lessons that build skills in problem-solving, creativity, and digital making. At Kasidi School- Rabai Kilifi, Joel  proudly leads a Code Club that nurtures young innovators, with the strong backing of STEAMLabs Africa and the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Joel’s teaching goes beyond coding to include Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and a strong emphasis on both physical and digital safety. Joel actively engages in communities of practice, collaborating with fellow educators through continuous training and professional learning networks. Together, we foster digital literacy, learner well-being, and inclusive tech education—ensuring that no child is left behind in the journey toward a digitally empowered future. One learner at a time.
