Emmanuel Ssekitto

CEO and Founder, Faces Up Uganda

Bold Question: What if arts education was available to all children and not the privileged few?


Pathway to Metis: Ssekitto Kalule Emmanuel perceives himself as a bridge between young people and their dreams. He is the Founder of Faces Up Uganda, an NGO that uses creative arts and mentorship for the rehabilitation and empowerment of young people from underserved communities. 


He has a deep interest in education and fostering an environment that supports young people to acquire design thinking skills so they are able to start and run projects with social and environmental relevance. Because of this, he is the country representative for Design for Change, a global movement that cultivates the "I CAN" mindset among children. He is a Global talent from the UNLEASH Innovation Global Talent, India 2022, and also as a talent in the UNLEASH Plus 2023.


In 2020, he was shortlisted as the only visual artist amongst the finalists for the Top 40 Under 40 in Uganda – a prestigious award. He received the Creativity Is Life, Home Residency grant from Africalia in 2020. He has received the following nominations: African Youth Leader of the Year (2018) and Young Achievers Awards under the creative arts, film, and photography categories (2017).
